In the spring of 2018 and 2019, Pleasant Valley 4th and 5th graders released books about changes they would make if they were President of the United States of America, and informational books about different animals they had researched.
To create this book, authors considered different book topics, voted on the one they wanted to write, brainstormed some ideas, wrote drafts, edited and revised their work, wrote final drafts, drew pictures to accompany their writing, and designed the book covers.
Students received Published Author Awards, hard-cover copies of the books they wrote, and copies of Skribblers newspapers where some of the students had also been published.
The authors were honored with class pictures featuring their awards and books, and Pleasant Valley’s published scholars also had the opportunity to share their writing from the book. The class books were also inducted into the school library collection for everyone to check out, read, and enjoy in the future!
This project was made possible through funding from the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation, and the Richard Allington Research Grant from the New York State Reading Association (through the Albany City Area Reading Council). The students participating in this project study with Rebecca Benjamin, Jennifer Dow, George Jenkins, Lyndy Sanger, and James Sullivan.
